This blog was created the 3rd of September of 2008, in the context of the arrest, internment, incomunication and torture of five young basque people of Barañain (Nafarroa); all this being hidden by the Spanish, French and international media. Unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated case; everyday the media tries to lie about the Basque conflict, hiding its historical origins, and manipulating the reality.
Many media-projects have existed in the Basque Country trying to stop this shameful desinformation about so complex conflict (Gara -Basque patriotic and socialist daily / language: Spanish-, Berria -Basque patriotic and socialist daily / language: Basque-, Gaztesarea -Basque youth’s media-project-, …), even being forbidden many times (Egin, Egunkaria,…).
Although this projects have fulfilled an empty place of Basque journalism, there’s still much to do. That’s the reason why I’ve decided to create this blog; it can’t be an ambitious project (because of personal and economic reasons) but it’s an attempt to offer something difficult to find: information about the Basque Country for foreign countries (I’ll write in English). You can also find information about Basque history, culture, music, language,…
Let’s see what we can get.
